GAARs - an international review

This meeting will be on Thursday 7th July at 18:00 at Macfarlanes, 20 Cursitor Street, London EC4A 1LT.  the topic will be “GAARS – an International review”.  The speakers will be:-

 

Dr Rita da Cunha – Rita recently won the Mitchell Carroll Prize for her PhD thesis entitled, “A NEW GAAR MODEL: Countering tax avoidance and promoting investment through legal certainty and the Rule of Law”.

 

John Whiting CBE – John is the current chair of the GAAR Advisory Panel; he is a director of the Taxation Disciplinary Board and a Board member of Revenue Scotland and a former Non-Executive Director of HMRC.

 

Roderick Cordara QC / SC – Roderick practices in the UK and Australia, and has had experience with issues involving the Australian GAAR, as well as indirect tax avoidance in the UK.

 

This will be an opportunity to hear about and discuss the finding of Rita’s research on GAARs, and developments in relation to the GAAR in the UK, Australia and elsewhere.

 

All are welcome.  The meeting will be hybrid; if you can attend in person, that would be great as it allows us to see one another and have some refreshments afterwards; but it will also be online for those who cannot attend in person.   Please let Karen Spring ([email protected]) know if you will be attending either in person or online (for security purposes and so we can send out the zoom link).
